Ford Kuga Hybrid Defect

15th April 2025

O’Dwyer LLP represents many owners of Ford Kuga Hybrid cars who have recently received letters from Ford calling its Kuga PHEV Hybrid car “Dangerous”.

These owners have been advised that their car is susceptible to an internal short circuit which could lead to the car resulting in catching fire and the increased risk of injury.

The warning also explains that the cars should not be plugged in to charge on a high voltage battery.

This warning renders the cars incapable of being used in electric mode and they can only be used by petrol propulsion.

Our clients have instituted actions against Ford because of this dangerous product alert.

They are seeking to recover their losses from a car which was purchased as a green car as it cannot do what it was purchased to do.

The effect of the dangerous product notice means that many of our clients cannot use their cars and will not be able to sell on their cars because of the public knowledge that now exists that these cars are defective.

Most concerning is that Ford have not provided any solution to the problem and only advise that they will contact car owners has and when a solution is provided.

This issue is not unique to Irish car owners but appears to have affected owners in other countries also.

The work that we are undertaking for our clients is to seek redress for the losses and the risk of loss and injury and even death that might arise should these defective cars be used in the way that they were purchased to be used.
